NO! use bonified fork oil. Different animals altogether.

The Honda 450 manual actually recommends using ATF. I put fork oil in mine though.

Whats the cheapest way to get the seals? Can I get a non-motorcycle seal? (industrial generic seal), or just buy them at ebay?

Can I change them by myself? At the shop they say I will need special tools and they charge 70$

alot of people actually do use atf instead of fork oil. but make sure its ok to use on your bike i've never done seals on a rebel but i used atf on my crotch rocket and cb750.

as for a cheap place to get them i wouldn't recomend that. fork seals are one of those things you get what you pay for alot of times. the guy i get alot of my new parts for refused to sell me a set of fork seals with fork wipers for my cb cause the seals were junk and he will not sell them to any of his customers period. i even asked if he could order a set and throw the seals away before he sold them to me and then i would buy a good set (fork wipers are hard to find for that bike apparently) and he still said no for some reason.

Well I just bought a pair of K&S TECHNOLOGIES FORK OIL SEALS, for 11$ in ebay. I hope they are decent.

Do I need exotic tools to change them?

I don't know what you'll need to change them, but I want to say that I've been following your progress as you rehab your bike, and I'll celebrate when you get it done. It's intimidating doing much of this stuff for the first time when you have local resources to draw on. Having to do it all the way you are makes it much more difficult.

Thanks, without the forum I couldt be doing this. The people at the shop rarely want to explain something, they want to go straight to bussiness. I dont blame them, they are working.

It sounds like at least half the time they want to get to the business of ripping you off. I'm sure things are done differently there than here, but you are better off doing as much of it as you can yourself.
