If you look close, there is a dot punched into the end of the shaft, and another lined up with it on the shifter, so there is always a point of reference as to the stock position.

Thanks for the info cagie. It came in useful. I also had to adjust the break rod.

Awesome, guba! Thanks!!!! Now I got a problem. The right side adjustment bolt is wrong. There's a bolt there, but it doesn't have a 10mm nut on it, nor does it stick out.

Dollars to doughnuts a previous owner broke the adjuster and did a bodge job for the repair rather than get the replacement parts.

Ok, so is it worth it to get it restored? I can probably find a Honda shop near me.
