Personal Review - Snorey

(CTC, you can make a link to my footpeg mod if you want to )

1986 Monte Rosa Silver Honda Rebel 450

I bought my Rebel in March of 1987 new off the showroom floor. My brother-in-law had one (black) and I had ridden it a couple of times and decided it was for me. I rode it for 5 years and enjoyed every minute while in the saddle. I decided to put it up in my mother's garage across town for a couple of years since I had a new baby. One thing led to another and those couple of years turned into 14. I am now in the process of getting it back on the road and with a minor modification to the footpegs (moved the pegs forward 7 1/2") looking forward to the enjoyment of riding it once again.

Enough about me -- Now on to the review:

The 450 is a smooth riding, excellently balanced bike. I am 6'1" and am a tad tall for the stock peg locations. It was comfortable to ride around town, but for long trips it could be a little cramped as I was sitting on the back part of the seat for long periods. When twisting the throttle, expect an immediate and powerful response. The balance of the bike is terrific. Two up riding is not a problem. I can come to a complete stop, look both ways, and if no traffic is coming, I can take off again without ever touching the ground. The low seat height lowers the center of gravity. This helps when cornering at speed. There is no "squirreliness". It is sure footed and grips the road like a racing bike. It is like it has the chihuahua attitude -- little dog (450) that thinks and acts like a big dog (600+).

The classic lines of the bike make it timeless and very appealing. I still think it is one of the best looking bikes around. As I have seen, it seems to lend itself very easily to modifications. It looks very good stock or chopped. I prefer to have mine more stock to keep the original intent of the bike. It is not overchromed like some of the newer bikes. It is a minimalist which keeps the lines clean. It is great for a larger beginner. With a 3 gal fuel tank and approx. 60mpg hwy, it is a great around town or long haul bike. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a first bike. Being a Honda, it is almost bulletproof.

As you probably can tell, I am in love with this bike. It is not my first bike, just the first one I bought. My family has ridden for years so I grew up around them. But when I seen and rode my brother-in-laws, I knew I had to have one! If you ride one, I am sure you will find it is the one for you also!

I'll be putting some new pages together soon and will be sure to include it.

I want to have several (25 or more) pages of articles, reviews, feed backs, and other rebel info.

So be sure to post a copy of anything that you find out there about the rebel.

Thanks
