Hello all, I recently traded for a 2000 rebel, my first bike. I knew the bike had been layed over because of a dent in the tank and scratched up turn signals on one side. When I test drove it, it seemed fine. My first mod was to change the handle bars and put drag bars on. Well, on the first ride with the drag bars went great until I looked down and could see the bars were a little canted to one side while I'm riding in a straight line. Off the bike you can't tell that anything is tweaked. Is there way to align the front wheel to the handle bars in my shop? Messing with the front end looks a little intimidating. Oh yeah, I traded a 375 H&H Savage Alaskan Guide hunting rifle for it. I think I got the better deal because I love this bike.
The fork tubes may be slightly tweaked in the fork clamps from the spill it had. loosen the lower clamp bolts only and then hold the front wheel between your knees while you tweak the handlebars in the desired direction. Then retighten the clamps.
When I used to ride dirtbikes and took a header the front end would occasionally get tweaked. The quick fix was to roll the front wheel alongside a tree or bolder and jerk the bars in the direction needed to realign the bars with the front axle. Duckster's technique is the more civilized way to do it.
Thank you for the advice fellas. I'll give it a shot.
