shifting issue

My 2005 Rebel is harder to shift (it seems) after it has been running for a while. On short commutes I never notice it, but when I ride for longer periods of time it seems harder to up-shift. Any suggestions?

I have an 06 and I seem to have more of an issue of the shifter sticking when down shifting. I rode for 6 hours straight once and the upshifts were never an issue (unless my foot was fatigued)

I'd check the clutch adjustment, just to make sure of that.

The Honda manual says that you have to change the oil every 4,000 miles. Before my oil even reaches 4,000 it becomes too hard to shift. When i do an oil change the difference is noticeable! Could be that you just need to change oil. I try to change every 2,000.

I changed the oil about 100 miles ago as that was my 1st thought. The clutch adjustment is okay. It is a very inconsistent problem. Last night I rode for about an hour and had no difficulty. Today I had ridden only about 15-20 minutes and thought I'd never get it into 2nd when I left a traffic light. By the time I was nearing my home it had started shifting a little easier again. Gremlins?

Sometimes they just have an attitude, mine will shift hard randomly, and other days its perfectly fine. No matter if I use the Honda oil, Lucas Semi-Synth MC oil, or Auto oil.

One of the Rebs quirks is that it's temperamental in shifting from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st. And finding neutral on some days is like playing the lottery. If you had shifting problems in other gears as well, then I would say something is amiss.
