new here
I just got a 06 black rebel. it really is fun. I am new and not a big risk taker so this was my choice until im confident on two wheels. An unbeatable price and looks great. I guess my first question would be IYO is it better to turn from a stop in first, shift, then shift or turn then shift? I don't want to develop a bad habit by shifting during a turn but, the bike doesn't seem to like to do either. I guess having to shift so soon is my only dislike about the bike. I have not taken the course but will in the fututre. Also does it feel more like a crotch rocket more than a cruiser to anyone else?

Welcome, good question! When I took the safety course, they required you to cancel the turn signal while shifting into second during a turn. It all comes second nature with a little practice. Hope you enjoy your bike.

First gear is definitely short lived and really all you need just to get moving from a stop. I find that shifting into second during the turn is usually fine but it may become easier once you get our RPM's up it will become more willing to shift into second.
Welcome to the fray from another newbie member. Ride safe!

Greetings minionofsammy,
Welcome to the Forum. Practice, Practice and more Practice. With riding time and learning how your Rebel performs is something all new Rebel owners learns. Lots of information relating to the operation of the Rebel can be retreived with the Search Function. Ride safe and enjoy your Rebel.

Depending on how tall you are, the foot peg locaation has the effect of making you fall forward, knees under the chin, hence the 'crotch rocket syndrome'. Many people have moved the controls forward and that seems to help quite a bit. Unfortunately there are no aftermarket ones available unless youhappen to run into a NOS MAPAN set, but those are really spendy.
Also consider removing the plate out of the stock seat to help push you back just a little further and helps with the butt pain.
