Brown cable missing?

Hello all! Picked up an '86 Rebel a couple months back that had been sitting in a storage unit for about 6 years...and the previous owner had neglected beyond belief...too many issues to list!

However upon trying to get all the wiring squared away; I noticed 2 brown wires going into a connector behind the headlight but nothing coming out. Both brown wires are coming off the main loom going under the gas tank. Just curious if that is supposed to be connecting to something else up at the front of the bike (seems kinda pointless to run those wires up only for them to connect to each other). And my ignition switch is on order right now, so running tail light only works in "Park", which as I understand via the wiring diagram bypasses the ignition.

I know it's for the running light/license plate...Done my homework on wiring diagrams. Just trying to figure out if i'm missing another wire behind the headlight that its supposed to plug into. If I hook current up to it, it turns the taillight on, so I'm assuming it's supposed to have a lead into it, just don't know where it's supposed to be coming from.

I'm guessing it might be a vestigial wiring harness feature for a european model that had a small running light in the headlight reflector. This is quite common on British bikes, for example. You are correct that it appears the brown wire is only used for tail and licence plate lights on the early Rebels.

Incorrect, if you look at the wiring diagram it also has power when in the ON position. If it was only energized while in park, you wouldn't have a running tail light or license plate lights while driving. But regardless, the question of the post: Is there supposed to be a 3rd solid brown wire in the cluster of wires"
