86 stator?

I just picked up a 86 cmx250 project bike. Its been sitting for several months and needs a lot of TLC. The battery was dead and after charing it its at 13.09 volts. The bike starts and all lights work, but when running the volts drop down to 11.9 volts. This tells me that it is most likely the stator. I'm waiting for the manual to arrive, so I don't have the resistance specs to verify its the stator. While I waiting for the manual, could the regulator/rectifier or anything else cause this symptom. I will troubleshoot the wiring harness later, but I'm just looking for some ideas to start. Thanks

Yes, the R/R could cause that problem, as well as the stator. Fortunately they are both available and easily replaced. I'm not familiar with the Rebels charging system, but there are probably plenty of people who are. I could give you some general information, but doing it that way can damage electrical components on some bikes. Best thing to do is get a service manual, either the Honda manual, or the Clymer. The Clymer manual can usually be found in your local library. Jerry.

Before you start the checks. Make sure the Battery is fully charged and can hold that charge. If not, your checks will be invalid.

I would suspect the battery before anything. If it's bad, it will appear to take a charge, but it could have bad cells. It might have enough to start, and not be able to keep up with the bike running.

If you have doubts about the battery, take it to an auto parts store and have them load test it.

I had the same symptoms, would run on a full charged battery but die after a while. Turns out to be the rectifier.
