I was referring to the almost 6 foot bed on my regular cab short bed ranger. The rebel, vulcan, and silverwing have all gone in diagonally with no problem.

I have a 5 ft bed, I just measured diagonal with a tape measure and I get a diagonal length of 90" with the tail gate down.. I read the length is 83.3" so looks like it will just make it. There is only 76" diag with the bed closed so I dont think the tailgate will close. I have 6 d-rings on the bottom of the bed(front middle and rear. I will bring extra straps and use them all. Will let You know how it goes tomorrow(Tuesday).

Thanks Everyone for all your good ideas, I used a lot of them in securing the rebel and bringing it home successfully! Here is a pic

Very nice! From that angle, it appears the shield may be too far forward. The general rule of thumb is to have the shield at the same angle as the front forks.

In addition to the tie down techniques mentioned above, here's what I add for a long trip. I use Ancra Integra straps with the soft tie option for the handle bars.
https://www.ancra.com/consumer/produ....php?prodid=17

A quality 36" bungee that goes from the top to the bottom of the hook areas. By that I mean the round metal portion that the strap is secured to. That way the bungee keeps the two attachment points in tension just in case you have enough spring compression to cause the strap to slaken and the securing hook to fall out of the attachment point on your truck or trailer.

I also add a second strap to each of the forward attachment points, but with just the slack taken out. Just in case all else fails.

Another option is to buy the swivel hook caribiner straps that replace the hooks and avoid the potetial mess described above. Here's an video ad - a picture is worth a thousand words.

I haul bikes almost every day - in a truck or on a trailer - and this works for me. Larry
