I just jumped on the freeway last night and took it from 60-85 three times in a row in a five mile span. It definitely can be done, just got to push the Rebel a little harder than many are accustomed to. The bike is designed to run at high RPMs and when you do so, you will be very pleasantly surprised.

Where you been Medic? You upgrade to a bigger bike?

No, still got the Rebel. Just been busy, you know how it is.

Good to hear. Life has a tendency to get sort of busy.

i have a 2009 and i don't have a problem doing 70-75. I finally got through the brake in period and took it out to see what it would do. I got it up to 85 with out a problem, i didn't want to push it because the red line is around 83.

Anyone put a tach on theirs? I've read the comments about a higher reving engine. Just wondering how high is normal/typical and what is considered too much. If there is such a thing?!?!?!

I don't really see a need for a tach on mine. If you look at the red marks on the speedometer and shift accordingly, you will notice that the engine achieves a certain pitch when it approaches the red line. The vibration of the engine also changes. After doing it that way a few times, you should be able to do it by feel pretty easily. I was suprised that it likes to rev so high before shifting, because it really sounds like it's going to blow up if you are used to driving a cage. I haven't tried it myself, but have been told that if you were to run the RPMs too high, the valves will float before the engine would throw parts or anything, but of course you would also trash valves, etc. that way.
