Right now the aren't really for anything.

There were plans some time ago to have some sort of Forum goodies you could 'buy' with the credits, basically encouraging folks to participate in the forum. You accumulte credits based on number of posts. You can have credits donated to you or donate to someone else. Problem is that some people would just post garbage to accumulate the credits and not really be in the forum spirit.
