CA250 versus CMX250
I have recently bought a Honda Rebel, and I think its a great little bike and I will get plenty of good use from it. I am a bit confused with the Model designation, and a few other things my VIN number indicates I have a CA250, yet when I run a Google search it comes up with CMX250 as was the original advert stated when I was on the lookout for my ride. I have no reason to suspect any sort of cover up, all numbers match up with all the papers and I have a good history of the bike.
There are Rebel's of both model types, but my question is (and I have a few): what are the main differences, I can see by your posts that the US Rebels have the frong brake disc on the LHS, whereas my disc is on the RHS, I see differences in the side covers for battery box and my upper engine covers are totally different, plus I have two Carbies.
I will be posting some images on the forum shortly.
Is there a bible out there that lists the differences between Import models to different regions, and the changes made in the production build years.
Finally I am looking to buy a manual, I want to be able to do my own maintenance, I do all my own car maintenance. I'd like a factory manual if possible, I've been warned away from the Clymer manuals. but there is a Cyclepedia online manual available, has anyone subscribed to this and if so how do you rate it?

Very nice looking bike. What year is it? I'm guessing '99. The CA seems to be an "other than US and Asian" release of the Rebel. As far as maintenance, everything should be the same, esception being the twin carbs and tuning them together.

Wow! there's alot different on your bike! maybe I'm too new to rebels to know but you have factory twice pipes! way cool.
different front fender
2 carbs? I want a set!
yoru gauge cluster and speedo along with risers are all different which leave big room to improve it however you want.
seat is different
the brake linkage for the right side from tha factory has you set up for forward control mods right away. way cool!
rear foot pegs are chrome! from the factory!
rear tail turn signals are mounted lower? not sure if I like that
the horn is chrome! I would be real intrested in researching more on your ausie bike now and want to find you local distributer for parts if I can't find my own here. some of that stuff is just too cool! thanks for the pics that really helps!

Hey Maddogg240, Glad you like the differences with the two global regions, I like some of the US standard features over ours, such as the exhaust pipes on either side of the bike for one, and another is the lack of gear change indicator guide printed on your speedo's, one thing the Rebel lacks is a Tacho, I'm hoping to buy an after market Tacho, has anyone done this mod? Any tips for wiring one in?
As far as the bike goes, it looks and rides as expected for a 250.
I have the small owners manual which came with the bike and it lists a complete set of tools in US terminology, does anyone have a picture of a full Rebel toolkit???

G'day Cagie, Bike is a '97, came with 9298 Kilometers on the clock (I've done less than 100 still), had been garaged for 6 years prior to my finding it, and looking through the documents that came with it, has been owned by two ladies, both new (learner permit) riders and have moved up to bigger machines. The only thing its missing is the took kit and the tool box cover, which I want to find replacements for.

That bike is way cool! Twin carbs! Does anyone know what the horsepower is with the dual carbs? Even the cylinders, heads and cam covers look different that the North American bikes. The motor actually looks bigger. Nice toy Triumphdude!

Thanks mate, I thought the HP was 18.5 as advertised, but I've increased it already, but knocking out the baffles and putting some holes in the air box cover, carbs have been adusted to suit the better breathing, and it actually gooes very nice, but not had time to give a thorough test as it rained the day I tested it, I need some sort of lugage rack/carrier so I can use more regularly for work on dry days.

You should be able to order a tool kit from your local Honda dealership or you can order it online via various vendors. I ordered one yesterday for $36 US to put on my 86 250 for emergencies. I also am looking for a tool box cover as mine didn't come with it from the previous owner but I think a stop at the bike salvage yard may fix that.

I have the very same bike I think, they were a special edition brought out for japan and Australia only, mine has "09-94" on the vin plate
If yours is a 94 model it should have the same year numbers on your vin label too
cheers Alan

The last post in this thread was in 2009 (and that was the last year he has been online also). So I doubt that you are going to get a reply from him.
