Adjusting Trottle on 2008 Honda Rebel 250

Hey,

I'd like to get some advice on how to adjust the trottle for my 2008 250 rebel. It seems to be trottling a bit low after coming back from service. It vibrates a bit and am a bit concerned. How can i remedy that situation?

Service? As in dealer service? Taking a bike to a dealer is not a good idea. They will mess up your bike, and take all your money.

Are you talking about the idle speed? If so, there is a large black plastic knob on the right side of the carb, pointing downward, that you turn to adjust the idle speed. I don't remember which way you turn it to increase idle speed, try both ways. If the first way turns out to be the wrong way, and the bike dies, turn it back the other way some, and restart the bike. Set it to where it sounds right to you. Don't worry about setting it to some specific rpm listed in a manual. Jerry.

What sort of service? If it was something the shop might have messed up, I'd expect them to fix it. However, I recommend anyone knowledgeable enough to turn a wrench in the correct direction(s) to get a service manual and learn how to do their own maintenance. It will save a ton of money and you will know it was done right. You might find one at your local library. They are also sold online.

I was talking a basic service, oil change, plugs, the bike just didnt want to start so i took it to a mechanic n he said it was the solenoid switch, according to him the battery was leaking, n it corrode the switch. From it came back the idle was too low and the mechanic said it was because the bike was cold, but it still idles the same way.

I suggest that you get a maintenance free, absorbed glass mat (MF, AGM) battery. They won't leak and eat up your frame or electronics, have more CCAs, and don't have to check the fluid levels periodically. They are more expensive, but tend to last longer and more than make up for any price difference in added benefits IMO.

Changing oil and plugs in the Rebel is very easy. You could probably buy 2-3 service manuals for what the shop charged you.

Yeah, the Rebel is a do it yourselfers dream bike. Even an amateur can successfully rebuild the engine. Jerry.
