OK OK... Maybe I am jumping the gun a little bit but last year I started over a thousand miles too late. The plan is to leave home on Friday and head south down the coast on 101. Our first layover will be in Florence Or. to spend a little time with my granddaughter Onyx.

The rain let up for a little while this weekend so I drove to the top of Comecox hill that over looks Astoria to take a few jump off pics. The monument in the background was for Chief Comecomly with Clatsop Beach behind and the Big Pond beyond it.

I have only been stopped by the cops once and that was for driving too slow!!!

I was once accosted by a lady outside of Radio Shack for having an evil gun on my bike.... I asked her if I should have decorated my bike with satanic skulls and lewd women? Outside of that everyone seems to like it... Ohhh except my big brother.

:lol2: Good answer! Last summer there was a reenactment of the storming of the beaches on D-Day here on the sand dunes in SW michigan by the group "Lest we forget". What an amazing experience. Started with paratroopers jumping out of a B-52. There were tanks and the landing craft with the fronts that open. Soldiers were fully dressed in vintage uniforms. The equipment present was amazing. The noise of the bombs and guns was deafening- even a flamethrower. Met a Medal of Honor winner named Herschel Williams who was a flamethrower on Iwo Jima. Very moving experience. All the gear was owned and maintained by private citizens as a hobby.

Made it to Florence last night. It rained on and off all day but was able to arrive at dusk so not bad at all. I plan to stay here for a while so I will try to get out and about for pics to post. Take care everyone!!!

Some quick pics from Florence.

The bridge over the Siuslaw River and the beginning of the roving dunes south of Florence.

I had my bike serviced at a shop like that in Richfield, UT. You could buy a motorcycle, buy an ATV, buy a bicycle, get all of your hunting gear/fishing gear, all of your camping gear and I'm still not sure I saw everything.

Phenomenal service department!

Raining hard today... this really sucks...Even caught some snow yesterday up on Tyee pass. Will head south as soon as the weather breaks. Should be in Ferndale Ca. by the middle of the week and will hang out with some cousins there for a bit.

I was stuck in the house yesterday and then I couldn't stand it any more so about 3:30 I headed out on Maxwell. 1 minute after I left the house it started raining, grrrrr, went to the grocery store and then home.

However, I did come to the realization that riding your bike in the rain is kind of like a wet dog.

You don't like getting wet, but it's a much better alternative than not going for a walk!

Are you coming down hwy 1?
