You've got it.
The reporter opened himself up on this one. I'm gonna respond.
Update. This is what I wrote:
Let's begin with how most organizations separate people from their money for a good cause. Many will throw a party and offer various inducements (raffles, auction items, etc., etc.) in order to get people to donate. This reporter denigrates the bikers assembling to raise funds for the troops and suggests organizing a day of fly fishing as a better alternative. That may be fine if you like to angle for trout, but not everyone does. Moreover, there are those who consider such sport at the expense of living beings reprehensible. It matters not to them whether the trout are returned to the stream or, horrors, taken home for the pan.
So it seems that the reporter recognizes that angling will attract anglers and possibly induce them to donate funds. Holding a marathon would attract runners, Le Mans, auto racers and their fans, and so on. Why then does he single out those who assemble to ride motorcycles? Does he not comprehend that those anglers not participating in a fishing tournament and others seeking to enjoy the beauty and solitude of nature might object to the onslaught of fly fishermen? Or was his purpose to present his own personal biases as the most superior? Shame on The Mirror for printing such drivel.
