There is a rally planned for August 27-29 at Lake Hope State Park in Ohio. (Yes its Sunday-Tuesday)
I went a couple of years ago and had a blast. Riding the smooth, hilly, twisty roads was awesonme. I was exhausted when we finally got back from wrestling my bike through those roads all day. (Jim had a CBR 250 and I that thing is so quick, he lead the pack all day-he knows the area too, which is nice)
Met a nice bunch of Rebel enthusiast and had a nice time. The have cabins with full ammenities and and campsites (with none!) They have electric campsites too. The Mrs and I get a cabin in the section where they allow dogs so we bring our pups along. The park is awesome with nature aboud, of course.
No real agenda, but I know we will go for 1-2 rides on Tuesday and I am getting thewre Friday before so I am going to host a BBQ on Sunday for anyone that wants to come by our cabin and hang out.
Hope to see you there, it's gonna be a lot of fun!
I plan to be there. The last time I went was my first experience. I rode more twisties getting there and back than I had since I first started riding nine years ago!
Flite, do you ride all the way from LA or trailer up and ride there?
I'm not sure I want to ride my Rebel that far since it doesn't fit me very well. I guess I could be trailer trash. I'm not sure how well the Harley would fit in.
Say WHAT? We are Rebel riders and don't need no steekin' trailers! I put 3,000 miles on the Rebel in nine days when I went to my first (and so far only) Lake Hope Rally. That included some unplanned detours due to losing my printed driving instructions. :nonono: I now have a GPS and plan to use it!
I had my seat modified by Spencer here: Spencers Seat Modifications - FAQ If you decide to have him do your seat, don't try to help him out by taking anything apart. It won't save you any money and may screw things up. He knows how to take it apart without complicating things.
His mod made the seat much better, but it was still hard on the rear after more than a days worth of travelling straight roads. I could ride twisties all day with no discomfort though. Guess it had to do with shifting around on the seat.
Where are you in Georgia? I'll probably ride to my daughter's home in the Atlanta area and then take a leisurely route to Ohio from there. If you like, we could ride together.
PS Would there be room on the trailer for my bike? :grin2:
I see the grin of course, but I am rather hoping there are some 2017 Rebels there, I'd like to see what people think of them who actually ride them. I'm guessing a lot of these will meet the same sad fate as the 250's, lots of them in garages, so anyone who actually rides them hard I want to meet.
This has never been a rally biased against any brand bike that shows up, although it does lean towards the smaller bike crowd. Honestly the Rebels tend to be outnumbered, I'd love to see more Rebels in general there, but you won't feel out of place on something else.
To do any serious riding in the area one really wants a bike that's good in the twisties. Crazy twisty roads in this area makes it a wonderful rally area for small bike enthusiasts in general. We've had attendees on Harley's before who seemed to have fun, although I don't think that anyone would have much fun at Lake Hope with a full dresser so I'll definitely leave my Voyager at home.
I think I'll be coming too!! putting the bike into van from Florida then after Lake Hope heading to Put in Bay for a couple of nights too
How far are the regular campsites from the cabins?
Sunday & Monday nights, correct?
Ahhhh....sooo sad! I wish I was closer! I'd absolutely love this!
Have a great time everyone....and make sure to take, and post, lots of pictures for those of us who are far, far away!
I'll be there on Friday. Plan to explore some roads Saturday.
I put a fairing on my chopper and got the bags mounted nicely (not on in pic-new chain and sprockets!), but one top is getting repainted and they are not wired in yet. Paint will be donr, but hoping to get wiring done before trip.
Put new tires on the CB-1 (Avon AM26) and hope to have them broken in by the trip.
Personally I'd like to see how the new models' stock raked tree holds up to a true equivalent rake & trail sporting less weight in the curves. Power becomes obsolete in that environment.
It'd be nice to see a direct comparison between the two... All the articles I've read list the differences in specs, but I want one where they ride both the "antique" design and the "modern" one back to back.
Any chance someone who will be driving there could bring a container to drain oil into? I'm sure I'll need to change oil at least once, and space is going to be limited on the Rebel. I could empty it at a WalMart or auto parts store that accepts used oil. We will probably encounter one or more during the ride Sunday.
Filter, was centrestand an option for Rebels, or did you add one? Just lubed the chain the other day, and I cursed my bike for not having one. I have this nagging thought in the back of my head that in the "lube, roll, lube" process, that I missed a section!
We had a member here who made them. Really thick aluminum material and a great design that bolted right on. Unfortunately, he no longer makes them.
I have a cm200 or 250 centerstand I was going to put on the Rebel before the above became available. Several Rebel riders have used them. Just need to find the right place to mount it, which would require welding.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but all brands of motorcycles are welcome. While it's called a Rebel rally, other bikes usually outnumber the Rebels there.
I just got word that Jim Williams, a regular at this event, is going to lead another ride on Tuesday. This gives us another day to ride together for those so inclined or who can't make the Monday ride.
If I get to Ohio a day or two early, I'm going eat lunch at Hillbilly Hot Dogs. Everyone should have this on their bucket list! Hillbilly Hot Dogs
