Why no 6 speed Rebel?

My 1980 CM 450 has a six speed tranny and I know Honda has built others. On a bike as popular as the Rebel that has sold so well for so many years, why can't it have an extra gear? Still would get great milage, probably sell more of them because there would be less complaints about the "buzz" at high speeds, etc. I remember all those 3 speed cars in the 50's & 60's became 4 & 5 speeds later, what could be the drawback with an extra gear?

I know I'm just being picky, and yes, I do have a 30 tooth sprocket on the way, but still, ...mumble, grumble, pout.......

Lot's of folks want one, Honda just never saw fit to offer one. I'm not enough of an engineer to say whether or not it's feasible with the 250 engine.

I am forever trying to go another gear when in 5th, just seems like ones missing. I believe that would probably make the Rebel the best "all around" vehicle with a 250 cc motor, in my opinion.

I'll bet the folks with 450's wish they had 7th! I'm still trying to go to 6th with both my bikes!

So am I, at 50 -55 when it just feels natural to kick that last gear to keep the same speed and drop several hundred RPMs, but that last gear ain't there! (no matter how many times I kick it)

Actually, on mine it has lots of grunt in low and when I hit sixth it feels just like an overdrive - I'm hauling ass, but the engine is just loping along. Remember, I'm talking about a 29 year old 450cc, and I weigh 250 pounds. Up thru 5th, you can feel like the difference in the 2 bikes is 200cc, but when I hit 6th on the 450, HUGE difference in RPMs at cruise.

I didn't know it until a member sent in a pic of their bike, but 6th on a 450 IS overdrive. The numbers are: 1,2,3,4,5,OD.
