On old bikes, just like old cars, you sometimes have to put up with a few quirks. Like I said I have very little use for neutral. Jerry.

I've had a similar problem, going from 1st to 2nd, sometimes under heavy acceleration it will pop back to N, as long as I "kick" it hard to 2nd it doesn't do it.

I'm curious how the mod went for the N problem, perhaps I can adjust what was done to help mine.

I always had problems finding neutral on my honda bikes, but i find you give it a little accel and let off the clutch a bit in first and neutral will come easily then, just gotta move like a foot, just quirks you find with bikes.

It may get easier for the 09's with more miles on them but I'm ok with it.
Same here.......if I try to find Neutral from 1st when parking and if it goes beyond and into 2nd, I try just a s-l-i-g-h-t tap on the shifter with my boot. If it doesn't go directly into Neutral, then I shut down the bike and Neutral is a breeze to find.

One thing I've found that helps for awhile is that after periodically doing the final clutch adjustment at the clutch lever for 1/8"-1/16" free play, Neutral is easier to find with the bike still running.

When running my bike will not go into neutral unless I am either coasting to a stop or once I am stopped throttle blips will make it want to go in.

Am I'm hearing it's a better practice to stay in gear? At a lot of lights I'll sit in N, but if I'm wearing something out sooner, I'll stop!

The reason you stay in gear at a light is to be ready to execute your escape plan as taught in the MSF basic rider course. If the idiot texting, drinking coffee and smoking in the cage behind you doesn't stop, you'll waste precious time getting it into gear. Neutral at a light with both feet down is a recipe for a bumper sandwich, and you will be the meat!

Riders need to be aware of everything 360 degrees around them. Ride like you are a rabbit surrounded by predators.
