My headlight is making a significant 'rattling' sound when I rev the engine. It appears to be the 'ring' piece on the front. How do I tighten it for fix this rattle?

There's a few Rebels that have suffered this problem, mine included. In my case it was the spring clip that holds the light in place. I cut strips of rubber to put under the clip in the three places it touches the head light case. Sounds simple, but it was a pain! Mostly becouse I didn't know exactly which part was making the noise and I had to take apart and reassemble the light several times to pinpoint the problem.

In may case the previous owner had done the steps mentioned above but I still had a buzz at certain speeds. For me the solution was to wrap one strip of electrical tape around the housing where the ring sits and replace the ring over the tape. If you do it neatly the tape wont even be visible.

The best solution I have found yet is to get a piece of foam weather stripping, the 3/8" variety, and run that around the inside of the ring. First start off with a couple of 3" pieces on each side, then add until it stops rattling. My reasonong for doing it that way is because you can get the ring too tight and cause more problems.

But, I have done it on my headlight and spots and it has worked very well at a minimum of work and cost.

Glad I found this thread. I had an annoying rattle at higher rpms. Some rubber foam insulation around the inside edge of the headlight bucket fixed the problem.
