I don't know what year Rebel you have. Mine is an '09. It gets air from an opening under the seat.
Sorry, I missed the headline. Different bike, different setup.

well my airbox opening is on the back right of the box and the "dummy opening" i guess you could call it is on the left center. does your 09 have this "dummy intake"? or does it get its air thru a simple square cut hole on the back left of the air box.

Welcome to the 450 club! I know exactly what your talking about with the fake intake grill, these 450 airboxes are all show no go. I painted mine flat black. not really a big chrome fan.

Oh, were they all chrome? Mine is painted to match the bike but the grill is kinda getting rusty. I'm thinking about getting the grill only blasted and painting it flat black or something. And I got a filter for it. It was a tight fit but I know how the air box functions now.

i believe they were, the airbox cover with fake vent and the battery holder were both chrome as is the chain guard. Im diggin the white, I had a ol XL250 that I painted flat white, it looked great. I went with black for the 450, powder coated it semigloss black.

Many '80s cruiser bikes had fake air cleaner housings, probably in an attempt to copy Harley. Yamaha's Virago, all sizes, was the most common. They had what looked what looked like an air filter housing on each side, even had a fake vent, while the real air cleaner was under the seat, and got air through openings in the frame. The pods were not totally wasted though, they contained emissions crap (actually, I guess that does mean they were totally wasted) My Vulcan 750 has filter pods on each side, but they actually contain air filters, and I like the way they look. Many Vulcan 750 owners hate them, remove them and the complete airbox, and put individual pod filters on the carburetors. This of course requires rejetting. Even if I did that (it would get rid of a lot of excess plumbing) I would still leave the filter pods, which bolt to the frame not the airbox, just because I like the looks of them. And if they were no longer being used as air filter housings, they would make a nice place to store small things. Jerry

Jerry...someone makes hypercharger adapter plates for the 750 and 1500 Vulcan filter pods, they mate right to the pod mount and replace the chrome piece. Now that would be the way to go, mesmerizing the onlookers at stops with those butterfly valves flapping away on each side!

If it makes the VN750 any faster, I don't want them!

I believe the "hypercharger" is strictly a Kuryakyn accessory, and it is hard to believe they make anything for the Vulcan 750, since almost nobody else does, but I'll check it out. I would love for my Vulcan 750 to be faster, a lot faster, but not at the expense of engine longevity. It already has enough power for normal riding, but as a drag racer, I believe there is no such thing as too much power or speed. But in this case, engine life is more important. Jerry.

Hmm...I had been told by several dealerships back before Y2K that the 750 and 1500A used the same filter, I presumed the back plates were also the same with different covers attached. If that's not the case, maybe I just saw it for the pre-Classic 1500 BUBF then, but I could have sworn I'd seen one for the 750 as well. I can tell you this much, it probably wasn't a Kuryakyn part but it accepted the Kuryakyn HC.

www.bikercom.com offers various adapter kits for bikes to accept the HC, try starting the search there. You might also try www.thundermfg.com for HC kits.

Here's a slick BUBF with the dual HC kit attached:
