Or a parallel set of leds, left and right front hidden in the fork area but visable from the saddle. Thats what I'm doing once the parts get here.

I know this is an old post but I'm having the same issue. I've been reading and I unplugged the dash light. And the signals stay solid. I've read about installing a diode on the turn signal dash light. Can I get some more info on that? I already installed a LED specific relay so I believe it's the stock wiring of the Rebel makes the signals stay solid

Amazing what you find when you are looking for something else: how to use a 3 prong flasher (led capable)

several here have converted to 3 prong when converting to all LED signals..
diode assy for LED signal conversion fits inside headlamp bucket no muss no fuss

This Schematic shows 3 prong signal relay Note watermark

while this one shows 2 prong which is how my 87 is wired

96 and up all use 2 prong as far as I know

Love those diagrams SoakedKarma, can you point me to the bigger ones (old man eyes, thick bottle bottom glasses type)?

Both are the full size as I got them and re-hosted..
abt 1040 wide by 660-680 pixels high

photobucket crops images to 1024x768 Max size.

I scanned 2 page fold-out 85-87 OEM manual wire diagram to single image
you can view or download 2800x2100 JPG or PDF from google drive HERE
Look for "85-87_wiring-diag-color *" files

few other Rebel related items in the folder too.
