Exclamation Frame tube size??

What is the specs for the honda rebel 250 frame tubing, specifically the tubing that sits under the seat and outside the swingarm (the tubing that the muffler hangers is bolted to)?? I need Inner diameter, outer diameter, wall thickness. Can anyone help??

Much thanks in advance

might call Jack for that info. I think they have cut the frame to do some custom applications before. Not sure if anyone here has done that to be able to give you the tubing ID. 407-865-4101

This sounds ambitious. Are you going to stretch it? I hope you post pix.

The master plan!

Will do with any mods I make! Do not mean for a long diatribe here but its warranted!

I simply am weighing my options for SAFE/ECONOMICAL/SOMEWHAT REVERSABLE MODIFICATIONS/SOMEWHAT STOCK mods for my (soon to arrive) bike and make it easier for my 6' frame and busted knees to accomodate this bike, and if need be, with the exeption of the stretch and gap between the seat and tank, it could look stock if I reverse this stuff. I will be buying duplicate parts for what I can and modifying them with the exception of the frameand swingarm which will simply have to stay stretched.

This bike is esentially a FREE bike, its a trade for contractor work, they wanted $1200 for it, and we worked out a trade, in my line of work thats about 150 sq. ft. of work, take about a day.

Its cherry too, only 8700 miles for 1998-99 model rebel, has the two tone red/ balck oval gas tank.

Since its "free" I have some room to play and do not want the power or the price of a bigger bike just yet.

I have always loved the bobber look, thats my style man, just ride slow and look good!

Anyway, I have seen all the forward controls here, really like Maddogs FC's, but IMHO they stick forward TOO far, but for me it would be comfy, I just dont want my toe rubbing the front tire when I turn!! lol

The goal is to get that length but in a subtle semi stock looking way.

So I am leaning to lengthening the bike and building 2-4" FC extensions, cut the swingarm to length, reinforce with angle bar or square tube, cut the frame below the seat midway and midway up the rear downtubes, extend, reinforce with 3-4" plugs, weld etc.

I will post a frame schematic soon.

This allows me alot of room to move the seat back, the bike will look a little (notice i said a little, not long and low) longer and lower and my knees and n*tz can breathe. I simply do not want to hang my A** over the rear tire as some have suggested thru seat mods. I want a SOLID place for my butt, not just some extensions to put a seat on and hang it over tire, I want my tail in FRONT of the rear tire, not above.

Simply put, move the place where your arse goes and move whats under it back so you dont burn it!!

I like to ride a little hunched forward, not straight up and down as this bike makes me do.

So heres the plan:
  1. Black drag bars
  2. round mirrors
  3. bullet turnies
  4. round brake light/tag plate mount vertical
  5. WW front and rear tires, front will be a lil bigger not much, rear will be max w/fender
  6. black powder coat paint
  7. brown springer solo seat
  8. rear fender shave and mounted on swingarm
  9. front fender gone
  10. remove stock shocks, replace with strut bars, tubular, same size as frame tube (thats why I am reinforcing the swingarm)
  11. cut the exhaust at the muffler, down slash the ends
  12. mod FC's for 2-4" gain, maybe floorboard like cagie
  13. cagies air cleaner mod with PVC pipe (thanks for the inspiration!)
  14. 3.4 or larger tank
Thats about it I think!

Now, disclaimer, I know I will get "expert welder, safe mods, dangerous, stupid, calculations, frame torsion/flex, stress points, etc. etc."

We all know there is a risk with choppering something, thats an unforseen variable, but why chopper if your afraid of it may do to you?? Anybody can ride stock, it takes a pair to mod your bike and ride it too!

If you can offer ideas, help, creativity or intellignet conversation the feel free to join me on this thread, if not, just keepyour peace.

Safe riding!

Looks like a good plan. You going to move the swingarm mounts back or extend? Extending would weaken it and make too much travel. Just a thought...

That's going to give you some space behind the side covers. Any plans for what's going to go there?

"You going to move the swingarm mounts back or extend? Extending would weaken it and make too much travel."

Cagie, what do you think? I respect your opinion. I just see a whole lot more modding to be done to the frame and more cut points (which leads me to worry about safety) if I move the mounts back as opposed to lengthening the swing arm. Are you saying the rear wheel will travel up and down more with a longer arm? Even with some sort of hard strut, or even with stock shocks the top
shock support will be moved back in correlation with the arm shock mounts. Im not concerned about arm strength as I will reinforce the arm with inner square tubing or square bar

"That's going to give you some space behind the side covers. Any plans for what's going to go there?"

Dunno yet. The side covers would be gone as a chopper-it. I kinda think the double drop side frame looks cool!

IMO, If you lengthened the swingarm and limit the movement with shocks then you should be okay as you say you are going to reinforce the swingarm anyway. Just make sure you keep the shock mount in the same spot in relation to stock position.

I would not strut that setup. Too much stress on the frame/swingarm.

Also, remember to sleeve the frame members and have them plug welded.

I just want to throw this out there too; you're adding a fair amount of additionl weight with all the frame stretching. Just be aware that too much could tax that engine...
