Can i lower my reb a bit without removing orig. springs?

Hey! I'm wondering if i can lower my rebel by doing something to the springs? Would like it a bit lower, but i can't make it a hardtail because of the roads we have here in Norway! So, i would appreciate all the help i can get: )

Markus

I had an inch cut off my 250 rear shocks and wouldn't recommend anything lower.

Okay, thanks! Do you have any pictures or something of it? And how did you do it?

Another option, although one that should be done with prudence, is to use a shock lowering bracket. In effect this moves the lower mount point back a couple of inches which lowers the bike a little. Be aware that this does change how the shock preloads and some handling characteristics. But, as I said, it is an alternative.

You'd probably have to have one fabbed. But you can get an idea what they look like and how they work if you go to the Honda dealer and check out a lowering kit for the Shadow.

I sent my shocks to SOTMC.com

Several folks at the Spirit World (a 750 Shadow Spirit forum, chain driven models) report direct bolt on of 250 Rebel shocks to their bikes (which is a completely different can of worms...those shocks become overloaded by an extra 200 pounds of bike before the rider sits down - but back to the point), with the only mod needed being changing out the lower shock grommets.

Sooo...it goes without saying that it could be feasible to add a 750 Spirit rear lowering kit to the Rebel swingarm, and you'd need a set of lower SS750 grommets to swap out on the lower Rebel shock mount points. It's a project I've had in mind but never tried out, I never won an E-Bay auction for the kit yet...

i would love to lower the back end of my bike i had struts in for awhile but ive been doing alot of toying i would love an inexpensive way to keep some kind of rear suspension besides struts and drop it down if not im going to make up a set of struts with bushings in them but thats down the line i think

Unfortunately the rebel shocks are about the shortest ones out there. Some have cut the springs slightly but I'd be worried about constantly bottoming out.

I imagine you might be able to score some of those "mini-choppah" rear shocks (re: shorter than Rebel shocks), but like I said about the 250 Rebel shocks on the SS750, you'd be overloading them before you even sat down on the seat...
