broken frame mount :(

On my 86 450 the front mounting tab that holds the coil broke off. Anyone have an idea for an easy fix or has anyone relocated it. Any ideas would be great.

If it's a clean break, you might be able to remove the bracket from the frame so that you can put it on a work bench and then use JB Weld to fix it. Just give it plenty of time to set up.

The bracket that holds the CDI on mine broke straight thru and I JB Welded it back together. It gave out again, so I re-did the JB Weld and it's held up fine ever since..........Have also JB Welded one of the 2 front mounting tabs on a Sporty tank with JB Weld and it's never broken again.........

I'm with GearJammer. JB Weld it. Just be sure to prepare the surfaces properly (no oil or grease, etc.).

As you mentioned, relocating is a possibility, and probably the route I would go. Also possible to fashion one out of JB Weld, but a lot more work.

You could always call Jack, he probably has a bunch of them there for sale......or you could probably fab one out of flat bar stock.....1" wide, 1/8" thick.

Just drill the holes for mounting to the frame and then you could use a worm gear clamp to hold the coil on......for that matter, you could probably use a worm gear clamp alone and relocate the coil to a part of your frame that works for you as well as allows good air flow for some cooling effect.....

Then there is the homies option. Go to home depot and get a clamp or 2 for conduit that wraps around the tube and has a hole tab, I used a chain link fence post bracket for my running lights.
