Air filter assembly missing

On my new (for me) Rebel 250, the air filter assembly (and tools) have been removed (see photo). There is a small air filter-thingy that's there in its place. I do have the assembly from the previous owner. Do you think this is going to be a problem? Do I need to put it back on?

I don't know how long it's been off.

There's also a tube coming off of the engine (see left in photo) that I'm worried about. It blows air out, has a clamp on the end, but is connected to nothing. Presumably it connected to the air assembly.

I see what they did.

that tube coming off the engine is the breather. Honda does not use a PCV valve. That hose would normally be connected to the separator, the unburned gasses go back in to the air filter and liquids drop in the a drain tube.

Personally, I like running the original filter. Its designed to give the cycle the best in longevity balanced with breath-ability, so to speak.

Here's a thread that shows how that system works.

I wonder if they re jetted with the addition of that pod filter? If not, just throw on the stock filter and get back the lost performance and fuel economy.
Doesn't that hose in the airbox go directly to the airfilter assembly?

Yes, the one in the airbox behind the separator goes in to the aircleaner. The one from the engine goe to the separator and the drain (puke) tube comes off the bottom of the separator.

How would I determine whether they're jetted? What does that mean?

The carburetor essentially atomizes fuel. The jet is the orifice that meters that fuel.
There are multiple atomizing circuits in a carburetor. Really the only way to tell for sure is to open up the carburetor and look at the jets. They will have numbers stamped in them Then, compare those number with what the book says it should have.
A bunch of work.
I'd just stick the original airbox back on and check the spark plugs after running.

Out of curiosity, where did they have your flasher. It was originally mounted with rubber on a tab that sticks off the back of the airbox. Without the airbox, they had to put it somewhere.

The airbox appears to still be there. Just the lid and filter is gone.

I think that's just the battery box you see.
