THX1138 introduction

Hello to everyone. So after many wasted years i have decided to try my best to get back on the road of motorcycling. When i was 16 (now 42) i was injured by a hit & run driver and as a result lost the full and total use of my left arm. Only about 3 or four years ago, thanks to the internet, i discovered there are riders with all kinds of amputations that are still doing it. The planning started at that moment, so i have considered my options and researched what could work & what is affordable. Seems like all my dead ends are due to cost. Well i got a break and found an 87 rebel 250, which according to the seller still runs & needs only a few things (chain, battery, left side exhaust pipe). I go to see the bike on the 6th of May (tentatively). So here i am- i know I'm going to need some help, but by the same token- not asking for handouts.

Welcome, THX1138. We're all about sharing what we know for the benefit of everyone. There's plenty of info about Rebels and mods, and we are always looking for more. We also have another member who may benefit from a replacement for the clutch lever.

Welcome to the forum. I think we would be very interested in seeing what you come up with, and helping where we can. This would definitly be something that could be archived and passed on.

Welcome, sorry to hear about your misfortune. I had a hiatus from bike riding about as long as yours. I hope I'm not spoiling your anticipated ride in any way, but riding is still a hoot! It would be nice if you could post some pictures of any mods you do to the bike.

Welcome aboard THX1138.
I like the handle! Sci-fi fan? George Lucas fan?

Anyway, I hope you like the Rebel. I have an '87 and have loved it for decades.
Sure hope it all works out for you. Let us know.

Welcome to the forum. There are a bunch of good people her that can come up with all kinds of ideas. I am beginning to have a bit of trouble with balance so I have gotten a sidecar to put on my '86 450 rebel. I have been riding for a long time and I really don't plan on stopping any time soon. Sounds like a good bike to start on.

Ride safe

Yes to both questions Buick. Avatar is from the tunnel chase scene.

Flightcontrol:Hope you find a bike that is suitable soon and in your price range.

THX:I found an 87 Rebel and will get to look it over on the 6th of May. Price is good for my purposes (700 or best offer), but guys says he will do payments. So big bonus there. Having said this though...whats the best way to make sure the engine is not locked up when it has no chain? Or battery for that matter. Get a battery and some starting fluid maybe? (i am forum illiterate so anyone chime in on that)

Guba: I hope I'm not spoiling your anticipated ride in any way, but riding is still a hoot! It would be nice if you could post some pictures of any mods you do to the bike.

THX:Not at all, the patient hammer approach is what i'm taking here, there can be no mistakes. At least Big ones. But if i could rub my hands together in anticipation, i certainly would! I can't wait. And pictures- yes. I will post a picture of the arm brace that will provide resistance on the left side. If i can figure it out.

Not sure where this should continue.... Mod or Rebel room...

Excellent! I thought the avatar looked familiar. I'm a bit of a Sci-Fi fan myself.

I sure hope that Rebel works out for you.
