South Jersey, Checking in!

Hi, y'all!

I'm a brand new rider; and honestly, I'm having the time of my life riding. Just put 55 miles on my 2006 Rebel within the first 24 hours of ownership.

Although I did take a turn too wide and landed into some bushes.(Instructors were always telling me to look through the turn...) All I could do was roll back to my feet and try to keep my girlfriend, who was following me in my truck, from calling the ambulance. Her nerves were shot, and I needed to fix my handlebars and reattach a turn signal. Luckily her grandmom lived right around the corner, so we performed the surgery there. God bless grandmom, cuz she knew what to do to get my girl to calm down. She was the one who told me that I bought it, so I'd better, "Get on it and stay the Hell on it."

HAHA! Gotta learn somehow, and I learned my lesson.

Welcome, Bigyor. Are you planning to take the MSF course? it can save you and the bushes in the neighborhood some wear.

Actually, I took an MSF course at Camden county college to get my license. A mere week ago. It was behind my reasoning for getting a Rebel in the first place.

The entire time I'm sitting in the driveway fixing the light, I'm hearing the instructors repeating their advice. "Look through to the end of your turn.", "You'll go where you look..." and I looked at the curb, so that's where I went.

But yeah, I've learned my lesson on that. I'm just taking things a bit slower and thinking every move through.

That's a hard one to overcome. I have to think about it whenever I'm riding. It's real easy to look away from where you want to go when things start happening around you.

Welcome to the forum. You're not the first to go where you looked and happened to look the wrong way. Don't ask me how I know this!

Welcome Bigyor, take your time getting more experience. Don't push yourself past your limits and don't be afraid to lean into the turn. In the end, experience is the best teacher! Whatever you do, don't become complacent! There WILL always be a new wrench thrown into the works.
