Rebel Newbie

My name is Dan, and I live in Central New York. I just bought a 1986 Rebel 450 in excellent shape except for the gas tank. I was hoping a 250 tank would fit, but that would be too easy. I didn't realize the the 450 had such a limited production. That may make it harder to find parts, but I think this bike is worth the effort. I am looking forward to getting this bike back on the road. Please be patient, as some of the questions I ask will be common knowledge to many of you. I am not a newbie to motorcycles in general ( I have owned over 30 bikes), just new to the Rebel.

Welcome, Dan. 450 parts are indeed hard to find. Good luck, have fun and ride safe.

Welcome to the forum. I really like the 450 Rebels. I have rebuilt quite a few and am always on the lookout for a good deal on one. They are a great bike. Sure the parts are getting harder to find but the bike and the way they run when running right is awsome.
I ride with a bunch of friends and most of them have Harleys. My 450 keeps up with no problems and will outrun any of them up to about 40mph, then they all can catch up and leave me in the dust. The sporters are the only Harley's that can keep up to 40mph. Then they outrun me also.
Glad to see another 450 in the forum.

Ride safe

Thanks, guys. I am amazed at how similar this 450 Rebel looks to one of my other bikes (picture attached). I may just sell the CMX so I can get my dad something a bit easier for him to handle. And easier for me to find parts for...
