Exclamation Newbie from U.K.

Hi all.

My name's Tracy.

I've rode pillion before, on a Harley and a Triumph, but I bought a Rebel 125 yesterday, I'm already in love .

Having trouble starting her up though, anyone else have this problem?

I can't legally ride her yet, as I haven't done my CBT, but as soon as that's done, I'll be good to go! Can't wait.

I'm sure I'll be on here bugging you with lots of questions, being a new biker and all...

Take care.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people here to help with problems if you run across any. Does the 125 Rebel look the same as the 250 here in America?

Ride safe

Welcome Tracy!

It looks like the 125 is VERY similar to the 250 ... you must get AMAZING gas/petrol mileage. You will definitely love the Rebel ... I got a new blue 250 last year and put 1000 miles on it, and plan to put 1000's more this summer. It's WAY too cold here in PA to ride in winter. I know my relatives in the UK (I'm from York) have been complaining about winter weather (e.g., 1 in of snow and everything shuts down!) but I have NEVER experienced winters like PA's. If they have such things in the UK, take a training course, PLEASE, and wear good gear ...

Welcome to the forum. Is the battery fully charged, and have you checked the plugs to see if they are clean and have the correct gap? How many miles on the bike?

Hi Tracy, don't let yourself feel like your "bugging" us, 'couse you aren't! Lot of Rebel fanatics here, and everyone is helpful. If your having trouble starting, an accurate description of how you start it can sometimes help. Is the kickstand up/down, is the clutch in/out, is the bike in neutral, what about the choke? Some times it won't start because the bike has sat for a while with old gasoline/petrol just doing a number on the carb. Lots of variables here!

Ahh I'm not far from York! I will be taking a training course, you can't ride on the roads here without it.

Thanks

The stand is up.
The choke is out.
She's in neutral.
The kill switch is off.
Fuel switch turned to on.
Obviously turn the key and then start her up...

She starts now, but then unless I rev her up, she konks out it is very cold here and I've heared they can be tempermental with that.

The 125 is what is known as a "reduced effect" bike, meaning the model derives from the original version with the difference being sleeves in the cylinders and smaller bore pistons. Barring that it's the same bike as the larger sibling, piece for piece. Some countries mandate tiered licensing and/or insurance, hence the smaller dispalcemetns on the same bikes. UK has a 125cc entry level rider law, Japan has a 400cc insurance tier...so each country recieves variant-dispalced aka "reduced effect" versions of the model

Think of it like the tarrif-era Japanese bikes in the mid-80s: VT700 Shadow, CB700 Nighthawk, VS700 Intruder, XV700 Virago, etc...we got the sleeved 700cc bikes while the rest of the world got the original 750cc bikes.
