Newbie from Texas

I just bought my first bike.... a silver 2000 Rebel. A young lady bought it new and never even had the title registered!!! 8300 miles and it was never dropped....garage kept also. She wanted a Harley, so it was my gain.

I have not been on a bike since I was 17 and I turned 52 last weekend. My nephew picked it up in Houston and it will be three weeks until I can pick it up....I'm a CPA & deadlines & such.

I truly enjoy your forum and I can not wait to start riding. And yes, I will be taking the course.

I'm sure that i will be back as I will have lots of questions.

Thanks,

Charlie

Welcome aboard.

I suggest the MSF course. Its a great way to brush up on those skills and pick up some new ones.

Thank you for your reply. I intend to as I know that I have a lot to learn.

The older that I get the less that i seem to know.

Welcome, Charlie! Make sure the valves don't stick before you ride it. Sounds like you got a great deal.

Thank you, I appreciate the advice...I need all that I can get. My nephew took it to a shop during the test drive and supposedly, it got the a-ok!!! I am stuck about 200 miles away doing corporate tax returns(and reading the forum) and can not wait to get ahold of the bike. But I do have to take MSF course also.

I have a lot to learn, but I appreciate this forum and everyone being behind "us newbies"

Can help with tax advice if needed. Know more about tax than bikes. But I love my Rebel and I hope to get my wife interested so that I can get her one...or at least on mine with me.

I know what you mean. I got my bike before I took the course. I planned to wait to ride it, but....

I probably should wait but.... I might have to take it for a spin around the neighborhood....no traffic and the neighborhood is a perfect 1/2 mile oval with no traffic or children. We will see in about two weeks when my nephew trailers it down from Houston. He has a "custom built" bike. I would not trade him, though.

I am very happy with the Rebel. I got it for $1,200 and I saw that in the pictures that it had the Honda wings instead of a Rebel on the tank. I talked to the original owner(she already had cashed my check) and she said that it came off of the showroom like that. Go figure on that. I wonder why it did not have the Rebel but she said that there were others in the shop(new as well) that had the wings?

Something isn't right about that. The only ones that I am aware of that came with the wings were the 85-87 models, everything else had some sort of 'Rebel' on it. Check the VIN to make sure it is indeed a 2000. You said silver? Is it silver/black like below?

That's what I thought. VIN states 2000!!! She said that there were other new ones in the Honda shop that had wings also. She had already sold it to me and cashed the check so I don't know why she would have lied...but I did think it was odd. I will send some pictures when I get it.

I have them on my cell....my nephew said it is immaculate but not repainted. It is silver with wings on the tank.
