Welcome, Steven. There are some folks not too far from you. You can post your location in your profile if you like, and folks can see where you are every time you post. You can also put your location on the member map.

Hope you have taken or plan to take the MSF basic riders course.

Welcome. Excellent choice of bike. Plenty of Rebel information here. But if you are a beginner, you need to start out the right way with the MSF course, and get your license. I could write a book on things you will need to know about riding, but they go over all that in the MSF course, which is why it is so important. Jerry.

Welcome, Stevem6. I live in East Dallas, just a ways West of Mesquite. PM me if you want info about the local MSF course. I took mine under the water tower at Town East Mall. There is another one offered at Eastfield College. Either way, Let's go for a ride! I know a couple nice routes near here.

thanks everybody,im definitely going to take the course. everyone at work told me its a must plus it will drop my insurance rate. i believe in the state of Texas it will soon be mandatory. anyway- as far as insurance goes do most of ya pay all year round or just for the time when riding?

i just called them today and they are having classes for all weekend of this month and next month in mesquite so im thinking about may 8-9.that gives me time to go get some over the ankle shoes. im definitely down for a cruise once i get insurance and license. bad news today, i laid my bike over in the grass , im ok but the bike has some small scratch on the tank. I need to take that course so that it wont happen again.

I too discovered that grass is a treacherous riding surface the hard way. But they will probably cover that in the MSF class as well. Dropping the bike is not unusual when you first learn to ride.

Take the course before you develop any bad habits. It's much easier to learn to do it right than it is to unlearn how to do it wrong. My insurance for the bike is about 145.00/year. That's without reprehensible coverage. Also based on all my stats including never having made a claim on an auto policy. YMMV.

Steven: Welcome to the forum, you will find a ton of knowledge and a bunch of inspiration too. I also recomend the MSF course. Like Fridge said, better to learn right than trying to get rid of bad habits. Congrats on your find 800 miles is nothing for a Rebel. Mine was 82XX when I got it today it clocked 9783 and runs great, so if you treat it well it should have a long life ahead.
