Hi Rebel riders,

Just bought my first bike ('87 Rebel) a couple of months ago, then passed (barely) the MSF class and have been enjoying it for about a month now.

Since I want to use it for commuting to work I find that I've had to make a number of mods: built a platform to support a trunk and then extend the rear/brake light supports. I've added engine guards, but ended up with the large ones and have had one scrape on a lower turn, so the jury is still out on whether it stays or not. Also added a windshield and new mirrors (needed a bit wider view field). A used tank bag has proven invaluable, too.

So, I have to confess that I've had as much fun modding it as I have running it. My next plan is to reupholster the seat to try and get whatever extra relief I can for my long legs.

I've been amazed at the information and support for other riders on this site. I had been lurking here for a while prior to joining, to see how to do some of the above modes. Keep it up!
R

Welcome, Rebelais! It's hard to quit customizing, isn't it?

Welcome to the forum. Please post pictures of your mods if possible. Other folks may be inspired to do the same to their rides.

To be quite honest, I'm having trouble loading the pix--tried twice, but will try again. I thought if I uploaded it to the VB image host thing I could then link or post the image in my posts here. Haven't figured that out, yet.

Welcome. Glad you took the MSF class. Those large engine guards have been a problem for a lot of people. IMO they didn't put much thought into designing them. If you are having legroom problems, and are mechanically inclined, it is possible to relocate the pegs, shifter, and rear brake farther forward, but it involves some fabrication, and must be done safely, or you could wind up with a problem like you are having with those engine guards. Myself and several others here have done this modification with good results. Once you get your legs some room, the stock seat feels much better, because you can sit more properly on it. Jerry.

Welcome Rebelais, hope you get the picture thing figured out. Upload size is limited to 1024 kb or 1024X768 pixels. Hope that helps.
