New again rider - Honda Rebel 2003 - Pearl Blue

So I registered on here years ago with hopes of buying my first bike. I read alot of forums and threads here. I ended up holding on my purchase and was absent form the group here... On 1/20/17 I bought a 2003 Honda rebel from craigslist. It runs and just needs a little maintenance. Today I realized I dont have side covers. I have put 50 of my own miles on it in the 1 week I have owned her.

Hey fredrock welcome to the forum, side covers are somewhat cheap but if i remember correctly the over seas rebel side covers don't fit the US ones? If anyone knows more about this please chime in. Nice shade of blue by the way.

Welcome. Do you plan on modifying the bike at all? You can get a nice set of steel sidecovers from bluecollarbobbers.com. I had them on my '04. They are very high quality and fit perfectly. They come in black, but could be painted any color. I was considering having mine chromed, but the cost was a bit more than I wanted to spend. My bike was dark red, and I wound up painting the front fender black. So I had a black front fender, red tank, black sidecovers, and red rear fender. I thought it was a nice look. Looks like you also need a rear seat, unless you plan on bobbing it.

Welcome Fred. I hated the stock side covers so I am in the process of making my own. If you have the time and the ability that may be an option.

So after 200 miles and a 2 tanks of gas I ran into my first problem.. My chain fell off. I think it was a combo of my down shift, loose chain, and a road bump... I was was so worried. But I rolled it back on like i used to with my bicycle...

Im going to order a new chain and sprockets. That seems like a really good deal to add some reliability and ease my mind on that. I found a bike show literly down my street who can help (I dont have a bike stand)

I do have plans to make a few mods.. Once I get a few maintenance checks out of the way... But I do like the bob look. I think red paint, black parts and brown leather and grips... Maybe a drag bar? The oem bars I feel do not give me a comfortable riding positions.
