How much mileage is too much

Hey Everyone,
I am looking to buy a rebel to start learning how to ride. I am 42, 5'11" and about 200 lbs. I think the rebel would be a good starter bike. Am i right, wrong, somewhere in the middle. Also, got a line on a '99 rebel with 23,000 miles for 1 k. Is that too many miles?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanx.

If it has had regular maintenance done to it then I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage but I think you could talk him down another $100-$200. You should also find out if the clutch has ever been changed. If it hasn't then I wouldn't be surprised if that started slipping soon.

Depends on how many miles you think is too many. 2100 miles average per year is not a lot. As long as everything is mechanically sound, it will be a good deal for you, at whatever price you think is fair. Always try to get the price down, but be happy with what you pay....nothing worse than always thinking you paid too much.

I bought my bike in August and have put 2500 miles on it so far. With regular maintenance you shouldent have to many problems. The one thing you do have to remember if a part moves sooner then later it will give you problems but as this bike has been around for a long time parts are not hard to find.I think this bike would be good for 100000 miles and more if taken care of and replaced parts when needed.

I always tell folks it's not the miles, It's IF the oil has been changed regularly considering the lack of a filter.
I've seen rebel engines that were toast with less than 5K and I've seen them go past 50K and still run like new. So there ya go.
I've got about 20K on both my 09' and 86' and they both still run like new.

Thanx for the tips everyone. I appreciate them. How often should the oil get changed?

I bought my bike with 0 miles on it, 2 months ago.

I've changed my oil twice already and broke 2,000 miles today.

I will be changing my oil every 1,000 miles. For the $12 it costs me to do so, I look at it as another monthly expense.

Welcome to the forum. I think the Honda Rebel 250 is a great fun bike to learn on. I agree you can probably talk them down a couple hundred especially this time of year.
