Hey Gang.
Hey guys, I live in South Texas and I'm new to Rebels. I just got scored a 2000 Rebel 250 for my wife. Well, thats what I had to tell her. Paid $1200 with 1209 miles on it. I'm actually a little big for it being that I'm 6'5" 300 and all but its something to tinker with. My daily driver is a 92 Honda Helix and I ride the hell out of it. Just did 200 miles on Monday and outlasted a coulpe crotch rockets riding with us.
When I got the Rebel it sounded like crap. Couldn't even here the enging running just valve chatter, but I took a gamble and bought it anyways. Just like I thought, It needed a valve adjustment. Looked like somebody tried to do it and did it wrong. Now it sounds really good. I've got new plugs to stick in it and gonna do a service. I had to get a rear tire cuz it was dry rotted. I took it out on the highway and it wouldn't get 65. I should be able to do about 75 right? I know I'm fat but it should still make it right? I'll see if plugs and air cleaner help.
Forum looks great. I wish our Helix forum was this busy.

Welcome to the forum. Not surprised you outlasted the sport bikes. The seating position is much more comfortable on the Helix. Headwinds, inclines and such will affect top speed. Mines tops out at an indicated 75 mph on level ground. That's with a windshield and about 200 lbs. of load.

Welcome aboard.
Yep, Flite said it well. Many things affect top speed

BTW, the Rebel speedo, like many bikes, is very optimistic. If you have the stock size front tire and reach an indicated 65 mph, you're much closer to 60 mph. Going one size up gets it closer to reality.
