Welcome Logan. Congrats on the bike! I really suggest the safety course. Doesn't matter what age you are, there's always something you can pick up from someone else. Depending on your insurance company, they might even give you a discount on your rates. Provided that you pass, you'll get your endorsement at the end of the course.

Welcome to the forum and the pleasure of riding. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation basic rider course should be on every new rider's must do list. You'll learn lots of techniques to make you a better rider and keep you safe. The carb may need a good cleaning, but you shouldn't have to rejet just for that.
Remember to ride like every driver is about to do something stupid that could hurt or kill you. You are responsible for your own safety!

Hi Logan,
My wife (stubbytoes) and I are in OKC. My wife is learning to ride too. She has a 2004 Rebel. Hope you enjoy your stay here. My big thing is ATGATT, All The Gear All The Time. If you get used to wearing your gear now, it will come natural to you later on. Again, welcome.
Jeff

Welcome, speedy. My advice: take your time and don't ride past your abilities. Your handle is "speedthrills" but start slow and work your way up. Even after MSF training, you will not be an expert rider. That takes years--only experience can make you an expert. We want to see you live long enough to become one!

Welcome to the forum. the rebel is a great bike to learn on. Take the rider safety course if you can, it will be a good eye opener on what you might encounter and how to handle the situation.
Ride safe
