Hello from KY (the state, not the jelly)
Hey guys, the names Butch. I'm looking to get my feet wet in the motorcycle customizing world and decided a Honda Rebel was the perfect choice to start out on. I don't have a bike yet, but am looking to buy one in the next 5-6 months. My plan is to turn it into an old school bobber. Long term goals are 16" apes, solo seat, bobbed rear fender (obviously), sportster tank, springer forks, some kind of custom exhaust and ultimately a rigid frame. I'm a pretty mechanicaly-inclined fella, but I have never done anything on this scale before, so expect alot of calls for help on here. I'd appreciate and and all advice you guys can give me.

Welcome, Butch. There's no shortage of advice and experience here. Plenty of pix of other people's project bikes, too.

i was saying that i would get a bike in a few months for a few years. when i got one i regretted not getting one sooner. you can get a older but reliable rebel pretty cheap. Don't make plains just get one you wont regret it.

It wont be too soon, but I'm stoked to do one eventually

Welcome to the forum. Someone will post a link to the bike mod "bible" soon. I forget what it's called since I'm strictly stock.

Welcome Butch. I thought I had the link flite was refering to, but I can't find it. I just passed up on an '85 for $600. Just from the pictures it had seen wayyyyyy better days. he originally wanted $1200. he kept lowering the price, maybe I should have offered $500. Anyway, as beat up as it looked it might have been a good thing I passed it up.

I hear that! I mean yeah, I plan to modify the bike when I get it, but I want it to be reliable as well. I'm looking to spend about $1000-1500 on the bike. from what I'm seen that will get me a decent ride. All the initial mods will be cosmetic (changing the handlebars, the seat, the fender, ect.) I'm not planing on any frame mods for a while. I would ultimatly like a true rigid frame, but I think I'll start by just replacing the shocks with struts to see how I like it. Ok, I'm rambling...sorry! But anyhoo, yeah I definantly don't want a junker. It's gotta be reliable.
