Congrats on the Rebel! I'm still waiting to find one in my price range. For now, I have to live my motorcycle fantasies through you guys, so pics would be much appreciated.

Great to hear from everyone. I got the bike too late this eve to ride ( and the battery needed a charge) so tomorrow feels like Christmas. First ride on my own bike!

Welcome, Jim. My Reb has taken me fly fishing a number of times. I have a sissy bar, and a bag that straps onto it. I have two split bamboo fly rods that travel in aluminum tubes. They ride just fine upright in the bag with all my other gear. Without the bag, they ride horizontally behind the bar across the saddle bags, or lengthwise on top of the saddlebags depending on what else I'm carrying. I'm sure you'll find a way that works for you. Don't forget to pack a cooler of ice to bring your catch home.

Oh, I rarely eat 'em. I just like catching 'em. I put 'em back so somebody else can have a turn.

We don't eat them at all. Catch and release only here.

Here she is
Here's Belle, my 'new' 87 candy wineberry red Rebel (assuming I figured out how to upload pictures correctly).
She's still not street legal; struggling with one *&%$# turn signal before it can pass inspection. But I am still puttin' around on her on the back roads (shhh!). The weather's just too nice in Virginia right now (50s and 60s -- hurray for la Nina!).

Nice looking bike. I would put the air box and side cover back on it if it were mine, even if I had to re-chrome the cover. I don't even like chrome that much and usually prefer function over form. I like the minimalist look and concept of bobbers also but I really like the look of the covers on the classic Rebels. If it was a newer Rebel with the plastic covers I'd say get rid of them and relocate the battery to complete the look.

I think I agree, mojorisn. Once I get it inspected and totally roadworthy I'll do that.

If your really having an issue with the turns signals but you want to ride just remove them, get inspected then you'll be road legal. then ride and work on your turns at your leisure.

Yeah, that's probably better than riding illegal as I am now...
