Another one rebels..

Hello everyone,
I just bought my first street bike, an '87 Honda Rebel 450.
I got the bike a week or so ago for 400 bucks off Craigslist, called the guy up
and went to look at it. i was able to tell the tank had been repainted
with spraypaint there is rust bubling under the paint on the tank.
the majority of the bike is freckeled with rust spots.
(i should mention now im not that good with the spelling)
But the bike was complete title and all, he fired it up and it ran ok,
He ofered to let me ride it but i dont have the M endorsement, so he took it
down the road and back, i noticed a small rattle and the bike sputtered at certan points in the trottel.
But for $400.00 i thought it was a good deal, loaded it on a trailer and came home and decided to take a short spin.....
To Be Continued in wrenching...

I just wanted to say hello to everyone. HELLO EVERYONE

Hello, welcome, thanks for joining us. You don't say how many miles are on the bike, but you sure can't beat $400. One problem you might have is getting parts, though. If you look through various threads, you'll find they're hard to come by for the 450.

I believe those parts are hard to come by because there aren't too many of those 450's out there (I think they were made for only a few years), so $400 sounds like a steal to me. If they made a 450 still, I know I'd get one. Welcome to the group, wickked1.

Welcome to the group. I confess, I'd like a 450 too.

Welcome. Best of luck with your 450. As has been said, parts are VERY hard to come by. I've had a few chances to buy a 450, but passed them up for that reason. The Rebel 450 was only made for 2 years, '86 and '87, and there are very few left. I have checked bikebandit.com and cheapcycleparts.com, my favorite online parts places, and they have very little available for the 450. I live next to one of the biggest Japanese bike salvage yards in the country, and they rarely ever have any Rebel 450 parts. This is one of those bikes people have deposits and names on waiting lists for parts for. Jerry.

For $400 I couldn't jump on that fast enough! Sounds like a good deal, if only I could find one. Wecome to the forum.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I have redone 5 or 6 450' and sold them in the past. I have 2 of them at this point in time. That is a great deal on the 450. If you need parts most of the people who sell them for parts sell them on ebay. that is where I have found most of the parts I have needed for mine. The bikes are worth more in parts than as a running bike.
Also Jack's in Florida is the place to go for parts also. His number is 407-321-5242. He is real helpful and knows a lot about 450 rebels.
The 450's are easy to work on and are a good bike. I really enjoy riding mine. The temp here was 75 degrees and sunny. Went for a nice ride hope to do it again tomorrow.
There are a bunch of good people here to help with any questions you might have.

Ride safe

Thank you everyone.
I have allready found it hard to locate some of the parts such as the clynder head, bottom clynder gasket, vaiourous carb parts and the crank. How ever i have located full carb assemblies, "resized main bearings" ect..
So i think i will be able to get the parts i need if i can have my crank turned, clynders bored .25 over and if my head is'nt beond repair "cracked. extreemly warped".
I hope to start tearing into it in April to get an idea of what can be fixed and what has to be replaced, i just hope that the parts they nolonger make are not the parts i will need. Jack's will definatly be getting a call from me in the near future.
here's a link to a vid since i cant get photos to resize...

Thanks again for the warm welcome and valued advice.
