Freebie

I stopped at a friend's salvage yard the other day. He had drug in six late 70's early 80's bikes. He wants the engines for go carts , said I could have anything else I could use for my bikes.
The first thing I grabbed was a speedo cable for the KZ. Mine had broken the day before. I was checking out the sissy bars and a grab bar for the KZ (no Rebels in the bunch). I saw two that might work so I snagged them.
When I got them home and in my shop I noticed that the sissy bar had an old Honda "Wing" mounted on it. It was pitted and weather worn. A little time with a scrubby, nylon brush and some black paint netted a cool accessory for Miss Dottie's bike.

Test fit, need to mod it a little more.

I'm thinking of sanding the paint off the edges of the shield. Should add a nice contrast.

I went to a store to buy some insecticide. "Is this good for beetles?" I asked the clerk. "No," he replied. "It'll kill 'em."

Very, very cool & vintage to boot! That'd probably snag a pretty penny on eBay, but if you're like me, it's just too good to turn loose of.

It's not going anywhere the Rebel isn't. Way to cool to sell. I have a friend that just got a powder coating rig. I may hit him up. Won't have to worry about chipping it then.

Excellent! Do you know if it's '70's vintage ? Seeing vintage items being used on currently ridden bikes....gotta love it!

I believe it is vintage. It is pitted under the chrome and the screws were rusty. The bike it came from had been loved but fell into a storage situation until hauled away for scrap . After I started cleaning it up I could tell it had the chrome plate on one side and the gold tone on the other. I remember these from the seventies/eighties. It has a home now, just glad I could rescue it.
You can believe I'm going to keep going back to the yard for more treasures. Heck, I used to enjoy "yarding" when my friends and I were into racing. We would scour the yards looking for cheap go-fast parts. Just another excuse to ride the bikes.

Seems like I remember the Honda patches from that era with the same shape/design. It's really great that you've resurrected it! There's something about vintage parts being used.....I liken it to the spirit of the bike or the previous owner still being allowed to share in the experience of being in the wind. Good kharma there....

Ride Safe.......
