Hello all,

I want to put drag bars on my rebel but as i read through all the threads i notice a problem with tank clearance and with speedo/odo placement. i really don't want to spend the cash for the bcb drag bar kit if i dont have to.

my questions are, what do i need to do to avoid the speedo/odo placement problem and tank clearance? will longer risers do the trick? pictures would be great on how everyone fixed this problem. thank you all in advance.

Disclaimer: I am not a drag bar kind of rider. All comments are based on what is OE and how that works.

The risers are what the speedometer dash panel mount to. Keeping them OE and in OE position will allow you to not have to mess with speedometer placement.
If you want a more aggressive riding position several different shapes of bars are available that will have enough rise to clear the tank. Another option would be dog bones. A short bar through the clamps and the will give you enough rise to clear the tank as well. The instruments should be visible through the "window pane" the dog bones and new bars will create.

4" Dog Bone Handlebar Risers For 7/8" Bars

If ya use those 4" risers, I'm gonna bet any drag bar will clear. My BCB bar/reversed riser adaptor is not nearly that tall. Wish I had seen this idea before I went the BCB route, as I kinda like the look. :thumb:

nmonty, when you say "dragbar", I assume you are referring to a flat bar with some degree of pullback/sweep?

I like a dragbar with some pullback myself, but hate the "broomstick" type dragbar, it's really not very comfortable. They also can not be very conducive to safety as your hands are not ideally aligned with grips/controls.

The dog bones also allow for a LOT more adjustment which makes getting the absolute perfect position for a rider and the bars. Once I modify my wifes rebel I will be going with dogbones and a drag bar with the proper width and pull back to fit her. She already said she likes the look, but requires it to be comfortable so the handling does not become difficult.

krator m/c handlebars have a box drag bar that has a 3" rise(box) so you don't run into the problems other drag bars have..they are @$25 bucks, look awesome & all your cables & brake lines don't have to shortened or rerouted...the only thing is they're the right size, 7/8 outer diameter but the inner diameter is a lot smaller so you can't use bar ends or bar end mirrors if you wanted to...but the look is off the chart kewl!!!!! just google krator 7/8" box drag bars, i think you even get free shipping...
