Cool 30 tooth ?

Okay dudes I forget it's been awhile. I do alot of highway driving and after reading cagies thread about his freeway speed after changing sprockets they sound more appealing than before. which sprocket are you guys changing I heard some say front and some say rear one is 30 tooth the other is? teeth. where can I get them I think that is going ot be my next mod for shizl if your getting to 70 before shifting. I need cruising speed and low rpm. to hell with speed its not like I get alot of challenges to race and if I did I don't think I would embarass myself by attempting to race. Im all about looking good sounding loud.

just for reference, stock gear ratio is 2.36 (14 F & 33 R)

part numbers:

30 tooth 520 chain - JTR279.30
14 tooth 520 chain - JTF270.14
gear Ratio = 2.14

31 tooth 520 chain - JTR279.31
14 tooth 520 chain - JTF270.14
Gear Ratio = 2.21

33 tooth 520 chain - JTR279.33
15 tooth 520 chain - JTF270.15
Gear ratio = 2.20

don't try 15 30. ratio = 2 (not good)

Suppliers:
Bike Bandit
John Ayers
Rebel gears (recommended by a lot of people)

I got my 30 tooth from Bikebandit. It does make a difference on the freeway, but you lose some power in the wind, but what can we expect on our Rebels

First I gotta say that I love it! I don't shift to 5th until 45-50 MPH. There's more power with the stock sprockets, but hardly ANY vibration with a 30T. Still waiting on weather here where I live, so I only had the bike out a few times, but the bike sounds more like a cruiser now. I changed sprockets so I could travel at 55 MPH and feel "comfortable". Still don't know if I get better gas milage. I tanked up this last weekend and wrote my milage down, we'll see.

Cool

[QUOTE=cagie;

don't try 15 30. ratio = 2 (not good)

what about 15 and 31? which makes 2.06 still too close to 2?

whats bad about 2?

Im thinking about starting with just the 15 and seeing how that roles. I do like my speed. I like what little throttle and pass I have at lower speeds. has anyone tried changing the front to 15?

ok ya ya so im posting my own reply.

I talked to Brad tne son and doug the dad at rebel gears and ther Rock!!

15x31= 2.06 probably bad
15x32=2.13 way cool
14x30=2.14 most common change
14x31=2.21
15x33=2.20 where i'm starting from

gonna try just changing the front for now see how that helps my top end hopefully with out taking away too much hp. if I dont like the results I can change the rear to a 32 and put me just below you boys with yoru 30 tooths Tee Hee. those guys at rebel gear were very informative and awesome defintely would recommend to every body just tell em what you got and what gears you want. the front is 20 bucks plus shipping and the rear is 50ish plus shipping. will let you guys know by next friday how this turns out.

15:30T aren't good? Maybe because we're losing too much torque. Please keep us informed how the 15T works out, that was one of the combo's I was looking at.

nope not going to try the 15x30 just going to do the 15 first putting me at 2.20 down from 2.36 then if it's not enough going to swap rear 33 for 32 putting me at 2.13 which is.01 greater than just the 14x33 which puts you at 2.14. then well see whats what LOL.

Thanks for the info. Had heard from others that 15 33 was working quite well with a little concern for front sprocket clearance. Most had reported decent perforrmance at higher RPMs, which is what this is all about. Stock gearing for the Rebel is mainly intended for city riding.

I have a 15 33 that I'm seriously thinking about changing to. Am running 14 30 now. It's ok, but the wind/hill performance lacks.

Just got in tonight from a run with the Terminator. Tried out the 14:30T sprocket set up at my official "test area". With a brisk tail wind I could get up to 77MPH, which is a new speed record for my bike! However, my stock sprocket set up did 75MPH without a tailwind. It could be that the Honda engineers were right on the mark for 17 HP.

but you lose some power in the wind

This statement from Tanner Remillard is definitely true! I'm not ready to give up on this experiment yet. Most of my riding is done around 55 and there does seem to be less vibration with a 30T at this speed. We'll see what the gas mileage changes to, but I have a feeling it'll be the same. Where are these guys getting 80MPH, downhill?
