never had anything thrown at me, but i had a wasp hit me in the chest and then bounce inside my helmet! That really sucked. i was able to pull over safely, tear off my helmet and let it out before it stung my face. I was screaming some expletives the whole time. It must have been a funny sight for anyone passing by.

Speaking of wasp. On a recent ride with my husband he got a bee in his bonnet I mean Helmet, the wasp was caught between his helmet and arm of his glasses. It stung him 4 times in the ear before he could get his bike over to the side of the road safely. It was like watching a fight at a hockey game, off came the gloves and helmet, then the terrible death of the wasp. Another reason to for a 3/4 or full face helmet. Lucky he was ok, but I wondered if the half helmet was to blame.

Last summer (or was it this year? I can't remember) we were heading east through Mt Rainier NP, and we were coming down the mountain and we got caught up behind a slow moving travel trailer. Behind him was a red p/u truck. Eventually trailer goes to campground and we speed up. I started smelling lighter fluid, like for BBQ's. About 4 miles later, I notice smoke coming out of the bed of the red p/u. I try an get close enough to the guy to try and get his attention. Didn't work. Another 2 miles down the road, he finally realizes the back of his truck is on fire. He pulls over, we stop in front of him and get off the bikes to help. Then I lost it. This A.H. is throwing burning wood over the guardrail into the dry brush and all of a sudden, two dogs jump out the bed. they are on fire, and crying and yelping. I singe my gloves getting them extinguished and they bounded down into the brush possibly sensing the stream. They come back up, wet and no longer burning, paws are red and blistered, fur is singed. I'm almost in tears for these two dogs and all the guy could think about was his POS 15 year old p/u truck. I found someone to keep an eye on the dogs and I told the spouse that we had better leave now or I will probably get arrested for assault. A week later I talked to the WSP Trooper who was dispatched to this. He told me that the fire dept canceled him, as everything was taken care of and the highway was no longer blocked. I was so p/o'd I didn't get the license plate on the truck, and neither did anyone else. I'm HOPING this useless piece of flesh took the dogs to the vet, but no one knows.

And then yesterday, I had to send the fire dept to a truck pulling a load of firewood, that is on fire. hahahaha Once again, A.H. flicking 'cherry' off his cigarette lands on the dry wood and sets it on fire.

How Awful for the dogs, people like that should not have animals, because ohh yes they are animals. Too bad the dogs didn't get out sooner and the truck when up in flames. Make me mad.

I've been hit with a number of things thrown out car windows, mostly cigarettes, but a few bottles and cans as well. Also wound up with a wasp or bee in my helmet quite a few times. Sometimes I got stung, sometimes I didn't. Getting a bee or wasp in your helmet can be one of the most dangerous things that can happen to you. You have to resist the urge to panic (and probably crash), and manage to stay in control and come to a nice safe stop.

Back when I rode mopeds, it was a whole different story. I had everything imaginable purposely thrown at me, including bottles, cans, thirstbusters, rocks, sticks, you name it. I was also purposely ran off the road several times. This is a common problem for moped riders, if you check moped sites like mopedarmy.com, there are a lot of threads about it. Bicyclists have it almost as bad. Several bicyclists around here, and I mean the Tour de France Lance Armstrong type, have been killed or seriously injured because someone in a 4 wheeler threw something at them, causing them to crash, and then get hit. Strange, things like that don't happen to punk kids on BMX bikes. I guess the types that do things like that identify with them.

I have stickers from this place http://www.bikerfriend.org/ on all my 4 wheelers, including my service truck at work. Jerry.

I have encountered cagers smoking and blowing smoke but not yet experienced a cigarette thrown.

I just try to ride faster than them because they are causing me to breathe the smoke.

Ride safe!

I smoked for 30 years, and quit in one day 7 years ago. Most of my coworkers smoke, and we usually come in a little early in the morning, and sit around a couple of picnic tables donated to us by the parks dept. Being in the middle of all that smoke doesn't bother me a bit. I told myself when I quit that I would not become one of those anti smoking types, and I haven't. But I wouldn't like it if someone threw a cigarette out the window at me either. Jerry.
