Windshield question- types for purchase

I have finally started putting some miles on my Rebel after an unfortunate accident late last year (with only 26 miles on the odometer). Now that I am riding several times a week I noticed the roads are definitely unkind to riders. There are a lot of bugs and road debris that I would like to keep out of my face on longer rides (using an open face helmet in warm weather), however I would like to be able to remove the windshield quickly and without too much remaining hardware or brackets when I'm just running errands around town.

What are my options for windshields and "quick-disconnect" systems for attaching them?

Thanks

I prefer a full face helmet myself...never mind the bugs, as you said the road is very unkind

No idea if there are any quick-connect systems available for the Rebel. The most praise for any shield seems to lean in favor of the Spitfire Slipstream (a permanent mount system).

^ The Slipstreatmer shield can be removed in a few minutes if you don't want to pull the clamps off the handlebars.

Yes it is difficult to find any type of fork clamps for 33mm. Most start at 35mm.

As for the slip stream, permanent is relative. If you get it set up the way you like it you can mark the handlebars where the clamps are, then simply remove the whole windshield by loosening the clamps leaving everything else tight. When you want to put them back on two allen screws are all it takes to remount the clamps. I had done that with a National windscreen and it worked well (until the windshield met its end on the shop floor... opps...).

I bought a used screen from my local FLIB yesterday. It had an HD branded bracket system, but the clamps were all broken. I modified the old universal windshield mounts to fit the handlebars and added a clamp to the forks for a four point mount. I had to cut about 5" off the bottom of the shield. I plan on moving the light bar out about an inch so I will have a little more adjustment room on the shield. The mounts will also be modified to be easier to remove.

The Clamps

I can go from with to without in 3 secondsflat, no tools. To put it back on it takes a hole 10 seconds. if I wanted to remove the clamps, it would take about 1 minute, once I had the allen wrench, which by the way is not metric.

I always carry that alen wrench, I really don't know why, since I only removeit to wash it about once a week.

Got it at Jack's for 70 bucks or so.

Hope this info helps

Kevin:

At first glance it's hard to believe the Pigmy Pony started life as a Rebel. It is NICE.

Then my trick worked! Thanks!!

Monday I had two guys standing around looking at it for about 20 minutes before one got the nerve to ask what it was. When I told him CMX250 Rebel he stood there shaking his head and mumbling something about 'shoulda never got rid of the one I had' and walked away.

I have a feeling that once you add a shield you won't want to remove it. That being said get the best shield you can. Perasonally I hated the Spitfire I had. It was too small and having only 2 mounting points it always moved around during bumps.
A National Cycle Street Shield has 4 mounting points and offers better coverage IMHO.

My Rebel had a Spitfire when I bought it. It went on and off very quickly; although I sold it because I didnt like the looks of a screen. Now I would like to have one again.
