Thought Battery was dead...

I have an 05' Honda Rebel, its stored down here in FL in an outdoor shed where it get kinda hot. Before I got it the thing was barely ran. Ran great at first then it seemed like the battery was going on it...Lights would turn on then the clicking noise as if wont turn over then completely dead. Went and charged it came back and light on but wont start or make the clicking anymore. DC meter says 10.34 it think by itself, 14. something on the charger is it the battery?

I checked all fuses and stuff hooked it back up now the lights wont even turn on Battery still reading 10 something and 14 something on charger...It starts when i run/drop clutch!

welcome to the forum. If it won't charge up to 12.5-13, the heat has taken it's toll and it will have to be replaced. If the bike isn't ridden 10-15 miles at a clip every three weeks or so, it needs to be on a battery tender. That will not only guarantee a charged battery, but extended battery life as well.

If it's an '05 it probably has the original battery still. The Charger puts out aprox. 14.6 volts to charge so you can't check voltage with the charger turned on. If you charge it for the recomended time for charger amperage and it still does not reach 12.6 you need a battery. Where are you in sarasota? I'm in venice.

I have come to conclude it must be the battery until i get a new one and see if the bike drains that one! Straight off the charger you can see the Volts tick away then stays between 9 and 10 at most...I live just off Fruitville and thats just off 75

I recently had the exact same thing happen to my 2003, orig. battery was way past it's life. Nobody had one in stock locally so ordered online and 3 days later I was on the road, no problems.

Whatever you do DO NOT ride it with a dead battery if you want to keep your charging system healthy. Running it with a dead battery keeps the charging system maxed out and will eventually screw it up $$$.
