tank protection

I just bought a 450 about a week ago, I know it was sitting.
(1,900 miles) not a typo.

I looked inside the tank with a flash light, did not see any signs of rust.

My question is, what steps should i take if any to ensure my tank is protected from here on out?

Darn! Under 2K and no rust in the tank, must be like wining the lottery. How long it's been since it ran? does the engine turn?

Sounds like a great find. Congratulations! I hope you didn't pay too much for it. What color is it? do you have pics?

I regularly switch my tank to reserve. That way any condensation from normal atmospheric conditions will be removed, thereby preventing the bottom of the tank from rusting.

Topping the tank off after every ride will minimize condensation in the tank. Sea Foam also removes water from fuel, so a periodic dosage of a couple of ounces every third or fourth tank along with Guba's suggestion to run it on reserve will help keep the fuel dry and the carb clean. When you get the Sea Foam, read the label for all that it does or can do, like stabilize gas for extended periods, cures bad breath, warts, acne, arthritis, and a host of other ills! Just kidding about some of that!

Also a good practice is top it off after every ride. Less metal exposed to oxygen = less rust.

X3 on keeping it topped, SPECIALLY if you are going to store your bike, for long periods of time i.e. winter. You need oxigen to encrustate or corrode your tank at a fast pace, so top it off as often as you can. If you ever have it stored and THEN you realize you didn't top it off, bring a jerry can, and top it off.

If your original question was regardin liners, stay as far away from liners as you stay away from cagers, non of them can be trusted.
