Rebel a Decent Ride?

Hi all,
I was wondering if you can give me an idea on how you like your Rebels. I have been riding for many years and most of my bikes were small Japanese bikes. I owned a HD Sportster when I was younger and I liked it. Now that I am older, I bought another Sportster in 05. I like the bike but I feel like it is too heavy sometimes (especially during slow maneuvers).

I recently got a job at Honda and I don't think it is polite to ride my HD to work. But, my route to work would be great riding roads. I have been thinking of getting a small & CHEAP but RELIABLE Honda bike so I can ride to work everyday (when the weather isn't bad). I am not that tall or heavy so the size of the Rebel shouldn't be an issue. I am not looking for any performance or prestige, I just want to ride more and my personal life doesn't provide much time for riding besides commuting.

So, what do you guys think? Is the Rebel a good bike for an experienced rider? Or will I be disappointed?

Anyone have any leads on reasonably priced late model rebels in the Marysville, OH, Columbus or Cincinnati areas?

Thanks...
GreezyRider

The 250 Rebel isn't going to surprise you with its acceleration, but it is a very light, responsive bike, and fun to ride. I heard of a Rebel rider who leaves many sport bike riders in his dust when riding the twisties, but he is a very experienced rider. The Rebel gets extremely good mileage too BTW.

It's great fun for a seasoned rider. I have more fun on the Rebel than my bigger bikes, and I always say that if I ever get flagged by the cops it will happen on the Rebel as I am far more likely to be wringing it out at any given moment compared to the more "tamer" rides I take on the bigger bikes...

Welcome to the forum GreezyRider, I don't think you would be disappointed with anything other than lack of horsepower. The trade off is excellent gas mileage, as stated. But don't expect to lay rubber at the stop light.

Personally, I would take whatever vehicle I had to work. But that's me!

If you have been riding small Japanese bikes for years, I can't think of anything about the Reb that would dissapoint you. The few complaints I've heard about it have either been about comfort, such as legroom or the uniquely designed seat, or the inability to deliver 1200 cc performance from a 250. Since you've been riding small bikes for years, it's a safe guess that you know what to expect in terms of engine power, and there are numerous ways to customize the Reb to get your feet where you want them, tweak the bars, etc. If you look around this site, you'll find all kinds of mods both major and minor to make nearly any aspect of the fit of your bike suit you. As far as comparisons to other bikes of the size and class, there really aren't any that compare IMHO.

yeah, the rebel is a good bike. its fun, light, cheap on gas, fairly responsive, and has been around plenty long enough for all the kinks to have been worked out. plus, since you work at a dealer you should be able to get a heck of a discount on a new rebel and accessories. get it man, you'll like it. i have had several bigger bikes through out the years, and i honestly think my little rebel is the most fun to ride. since you have been riding small bikes for a while, you know what i mean. its alot more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. but you probably already know this.

Hello GreezyRider, I live just south of you at Englewood and after over 200,000 of riding all sizes I like the Rebel. I've ridden my Rebel 19,000 miles in the last 4 years. Being 5'6" and 230 lb. it is a good size for me.

You might check graigslist.org for used Rebels. Tonight I found 24 in the Columbus area, 4 in the Dayton area, and 11 in the Cincinnati area ranging from $800 to $3000. Also, usually Competition Accessories in Springfield has a few used ones in stock. That's where I got mine.

Thanks

Thanks guys for all of your responses! I will be looking soon.
FYI, I don't work for a dealer, I work for the plant.
Looking forward to a great season!
GreezyRider.
