Talking Rebel 250 Tires ??

Need new tires for my daughters rebel.
I have all the tools & do my own dismount & mount/balance.
Any suggestions on where to purchase over the internet?

Also she would like a wider rear tire.
It's a 130 stock, looks like a 140 will easily fit as far as clearance & rim width. Has anyone put wider tires on? What size? brand? Any issues ?

TIA, Mike

Running a larger tire causes the contact patch to balloon due to our smaller and skinnier rims. This will cause them to wear down the middle faster on top of other dangers.

Id reccomend ordering from dennis kirk. They have the cheapest prices around plus free shipping on orders over 100.

I just bought a set from Jake Wilson, they offer free shipping for orders over $99 and I got them UPS ground in two days. Pricing is competative.

Jake Wilson was the cheapest, plus they have a code for 10% off. Ask them for it.

Both our Rebels have taller front tires (Dunlop 404 100/90-18 ). They do rub a bit, so I unbolted the fender and used the Dremel to oval out the bolt hole. No more rubbing.

I have the stock size rear tire on mine but I put the 140/90-15 Dunlop 404 on the back of the spouses bike. He says it rides much better now. Plenty of room back there for that tire. Won't get anything fatter in there, though.

I'm probably going to need a new set of tires next summer, so I'm thinking about putting the larger tire on the back. I'm pretty happy with the Dunlops (10K on this set and they still look good), but I MAY look into the Metzler 880's. Friend of mine has about 18K on a set on her Suzuki Savage, and they look better than the 10K Dunlops on my Rebel.

My local Honda dealer gives us internet pricing on our tires so we don't buy online any more.

DeeG, have you tried the Pirelli's? I've got over 7k on the rear tire on my Vulcan with well over 50% tread remaining. Great traction wet or dry and it's just over half the price.

Thumbs up thanks guys/gals

I prefer the Dunlops.
will keep front stock size.
Ordered a set today with the 140 for the rear.

I tried the Metzlers once on the rear of my bike, I don't do any burn outs but do like to excellerate rapidly thru the gears, I got almost 7K. I average just about 10k with the Dunlops. mucho better.

Mike

Spouses Rebel had Pirellis as the stock tire. It was OK, but for whatever reason, we only got about 11,000 miles on them before the front treads were gone and the rear was flat and smooth.

However, my Guzzi Breva has Pirelli Sport Demons on it, and I just put a set of the Angels on my BMW R850R. Took the 850 on a short trip this past weekend (about ~1000 miles) about 60% of it was on paved, twisty USFS roads in Oregon.

I was REAL impressed with the Angels. The Bridge of the Gods in OR is grated. The Sport Demons had me feeling I was going to crash. scary. The Angels tracked straight as an arrow, even with the 30 mph crosswind (the Columbia Gorge can be really windy). And at the hotel on Monday morning, a fellow biker commented on my lack of 'chicken strips' on the tires. Almost scraped the pegs a couple of times, that's how grippy and wonderful these tires are. If I can find them to fit the rebel,

I may look again at the Pirelli's, we'll see what they have that fits. I probably won't change them till this time next year. Pretty sure I can get another 5,000 on these 404's.

Recently installed a dunlop 404 one size over (140) looks great, rides great, you can actually feel a traction increase while cornering and accelerating on rainy days (like yesterday and today) I purchased then on line from Jake Wilson, I also got the dyna beads to balance it, and it runs SMOOTH. I do my installs my self too, I do them for several reasons: I like wrenching on all "the fleet", peace of mind that the job is done right, don't like to give away money, among other reasons. Let us know what you en up getting and how it works for you.
Good luck.
