Low oil! Engine break in?

Changes my oil about a month ago after it sat all winter and just started riding again two weeks ago. I have put on about 250 miles in the last week or so. The bike is brand new and only has 250 miles and I went outside to check the oil while I'm at work today and it's below the stick! I do not seem to have a leak but am worried. How should I check the oil stick to make sure I'm getting an accurate reading and should I be worried?

Help! Ont wanna blow up my new bike!

My bad...was checking it with the bike on the kickstand....with the bike level and the cap not screwed in, the oil reads to the top of the hash marks! Am I checking it right?

Now you are checking it right The bike has to be level when checking the oil, I usually just put a 2x4 and a piece of ¼ in plywood under the kickstand and call it close enough to level but you can sit on the bike to and check the level.

Nothing like a good panic attack to raise the blood pressure.

I prescribe a minimum of 100 miles riding on some back country roads to alleviate the problem. It should also refresh your memory. If the problem persists, increase your daily mileage.
