Honda Rebel Performance Upgrades?

Are there such a thing? My searches are turning up accessories and OEM. MegaCycle doesn't have anything listed. I just like to tweak engines for fun over time and I am looking at a 1987 Honda CMX250 that will need a little love.

So, maybe you've got a modified rebel engine you want to show off, I'd love to see it!

A slightly larger exhaust pipe and a slightly bigger carb would be enough for me. Carb is handled. Exhaust going to have to be self-made I'm guessing.

Have you heard of aftermarket cams or anything? I know there is oversized pistons somewhere. Could probably get a custom con rod if needed.

i have heard that the australian rebels came/come with two carbs. if you are willing to import the parts you can set up a barrel per cylinder. not sure how many more ponies you would get thoe.

I'm sure Honda didn't leave much on the table with this motor from everything I have read here on the forum. Working a custom cam, head work, Maybe mill a little off the top, boring the cylinders, and the dual carb set up would be aweful expensive without much return. Someone wrote "buy a bigger bike, it's cheaper". I believe they are right. That turbo thread was pretty neat

The Atkins Diet will produce better results than anything you can do to the intake/exhaust/final drive ratio

Optimally intake and exhaust mods will produce a 15% gain.*** 15% of 16HP isn't enough to register, meanwhile lightening your load will be more noticeable.

*** note that's optimum, not typical...meaning when you buy proven intake and exhaust systems. Since there are only two aftermarket exhaust systems and zero intake kits for the 250 Rebel, you'd better be willing to pay through the nose in research into what would work best and how to make it work...just to get that coveted 2 pony gain. Also consider such mods typically only produce gains at certain RPM ranges, which typically exceed normal riding conditions.

"Ride Safe, Chop Safer" Motorcycles are not unsafe. However, they are extremely unforgiving of inattention, incompetence, ignorance, and stupidity.
Dismantling, sawzalling, and rattle canning does not make a bobber. That's called an "ANCHOR".
